In her capacity as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Princess Basma opened the 14th edition of the Women's Film Week The festival is organized by UN Women in cooperation with the Royal Film Commission of Jordan, and it highlights films that explore women’s lives, empowerment, leadership, and broader social change.
In her remarks, Princess Basma stressed that women play a crucial role in driving positive change within families and communities, while also facing significant challenges linked to conflict, economic hardship, and instability. She praised filmmakers for not only portraying lived experiences but also for bearing witness to events around them and preserving truth in places affected by violence, sometimes at great personal risk. She emphasized that storytelling in contexts of conflict becomes a form of preservation and resistance, particularly through the work of women filmmakers who are documenting how crises shape the lives of women, families, and entire communities.
Princess Basma patronized the Ministry of Education celebration to mark the 80th anniversary of Jordan’s independence. The event was held at the Princess Basma Scout Camp in Dibeen.
In her speech, Princess Basma emphasized that independence should be understood as an ongoing national responsibility rather than just a historical milestone. She highlighted the importance of sustaining national values such as loyalty, commitment, and active contribution to development. She also noted Jordan’s ability to transform challenges into opportunities while maintaining moderation, stability, and constructive engagement at both national and community levels.
The Princess further noted that the scouting movement reflects the values of independence by helping to shape young people’s character through discipline, belonging, volunteerism, and perseverance. She stressed the Ministry of Education’s role in reinforcing these principles through schooling, and highlighted Boy Scouts and Girl Guides as key partners in promoting civic awareness, teamwork, responsibility, and community service alongside formal education.
Princess Basma attended the 70th anniversary celebration of the Young Women’s Christian Association of Jordan, where she praised the organization’s long-standing contributions to community service, women’s empowerment, youth development, and the promotion of citizenship and social responsibility. She noted that the YWCA’s seven decades of work reflect a strong belief in the importance of investing in people and strengthening the role of women in society.
During the event, Princess Basma highlighted how the YWCA’s journey mirrors Jordan’s values of coexistence, inclusion, and national unity, bringing together people of different backgrounds in service of the country. YWCA President Hania Qaqish emphasized that the association has consistently championed women as essential partners in development and nation-building, operating in line with Jordan’s traditions of pluralism, respect, and human dignity.
The celebration also showcased the YWCA’s achievements in supporting women and families through economic empowerment initiatives, training programs, and community services. Cultural performances were held to mark the occasion, and Princess Basma honored YWCA pioneers, volunteers, scholarship supporters, and outstanding female students in recognition of their contributions to the organization’s humanitarian and educational mission.
