In her capacity as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Princess Basma opened the 14th edition of the Women's Film Week The festival is organized by UN Women in cooperation with the Royal Film Commission of Jordan, and it highlights films that explore women’s lives, empowerment, leadership, and broader social change.
In her remarks, Princess Basma stressed that women play a crucial role in driving positive change within families and communities, while also facing significant challenges linked to conflict, economic hardship, and instability. She praised filmmakers for not only portraying lived experiences but also for bearing witness to events around them and preserving truth in places affected by violence, sometimes at great personal risk. She emphasized that storytelling in contexts of conflict becomes a form of preservation and resistance, particularly through the work of women filmmakers who are documenting how crises shape the lives of women, families, and entire communities.
