In May 2006, around 2,500 UN employees as well as representatives of ministries and private companies in the Kingdom took part in the “Fight Hunger: Walk the World” for the first time. Around 700,000 people in over 100 countries across 24 time zones walked five kilometres to highlight the battle against child hunger.

The event is some of many to engage citizens globally in the struggle to achieve an end to child hunger and the first Millennium Development Goal. 

Since then, Jordan's hunger walk has continued to grow each year and has gained wide national recognition.
 

As Chairperson of the National Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition, the annual hunger walk is held under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma.
