AMMAN (Petra) - HRH Princess Basma, chairperson of the Jordan National Coalition for Fighting Hunger (JNCH), on Wednesday met with World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director Josette Sheeran, who is visiting the Kingdom as part of a regional tour.

During the meeting, the Princess outlined the JNCH objectives and its future plans, noting that work is under way to prepare a five-year national strategy to encourage voluntary work in underprivileged areas in Jordan. Also on Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Khalid Karaki, deputising for Prime Minister Samir Rifai, met with Sheeran.

Discussions addressed the School Nutrition Programme and means to expand it, according to Karaki.

The programme, which has been implemented for 10 years, provides meals to more than 115,000 students in underprivileged areas. Over the past years, the WFP has assisted Jordan in implementing development programmes and projects valued at more than $200 million.
