AMMAN - HRH Princess Basma on Tuesday said exposure to experiences of societies that share similar circumstances will only work to strengthen efforts geared towards strengthening women′s capabilities and capacities within their own communities .
The Princess made the remarks during a meeting with an Azerbaijani women′s delegation, headed by Professor Hijran Huseynova, chairperson of the Republic of Azerbaijan′s State Committee for Family, Women′s and Children′s Affairs (SCFWCA ).
The delegation is on a four-day visit to the Kingdom upon the invitation of the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW ).
"Such meetings are considered excellent opportunities to exchange knowledge and thoughts that would enrich the experiences of both committees," the Jordan News Agency, Petra, quoted the Princess as saying .
Also during the meeting, the two sides signed memoranda of understanding that included implementing programmes and cooperation mechanisms between the JNCW and SCFWCA .
At the end of the meeting, Huseynova presented Princess Basma with a commemorative medal in recognition of her significant contribution in promoting global human development, gender equality and the well-being of children .
Also on Tuesday, Huseynova met with JNCW Secretary General Asma Khader and Jordanian National Forum for Women Secretary General Mai Abu Samen .
She also met with representatives of women′s organisations, NGO committees and JNCW networks .
Touching on the history of the women′s movement in Azerbaijan, Huseynova noted that women in her country gained the right to vote in 1918 .
She added that the main priority for the Azerbaijani leadership and the government is "to ensure respect for gender equality in our society ".
Professor Adiba Pashayeva, Professor Kamala Ojagova and Rufat Atakishiyev are accompanying Huseynova on the four-day visit to the Kingdom .
