Princess Basma Inaugurates Girl Guides Forum

AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma, president of the Jordanian Association for Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, on Monday inaugurated the environmental forum of the Education Ministry’s girl guides dubbed: “Our environment, our responsibility”.

The event is being held on the occasion of His Majesty King Abdullah’s 55th birthday.

The forum, held at the Karameh martyrs camp in the Jordan Valley, aims at raising environmental awareness, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Princess Basma expressed her best wishes to His Majesty on his birthday, stressing the importance of the scout association for its “noble humanitarian and volunteerism values”, in addition to its contributions to instilling patriotism among students.

She also praised the Education Ministry’s support for the association to ensure its success.

Education Minister Omar Razzaz expressed the ministry’s keenness to engage students in voluntary work and in the scout association, for their importance in building character.

Raeda Bader, head of the boy scouts and girl guides department at the ministry, reviewed the forum’s programme, which comprises several voluntary activities implemented by girl guides at the camp, and awareness and educational lectures.

Princess Basma took part in planting saplings at the camp and listened to the success stories of several girl guides and the role of the association in honing their skills, Petra added
